The Generalized Covering Radii of Linear Codes

چکیده
Motivated by an application to database linear querying, such as private information-retrieval protocols, we suggest a fundamental property of codes– the generalized covering radius. The covering-radius hierarchy code characterizes trade-off between storage amount, latency, and access complexity, in systems. Several equivalent definitions are provided, showing this combinatorial, geometric, algebraic notion. We derive bounds on parameters relation with radii, study effect simple operations, describe connection Hamming weights.

On the Newton and covering radii of linear codes
The Newton radius of a code is the largest weight of a uniquely correctable error. The covering radius is the largest distance between a vector and the code. Two relations between the Newton radius and the covering radius are given.
متن کاملOn octonary codes and their covering radii
This paper introduces new reduction and torsion codes for an octonary code and determines their basic properties. These could be useful for the classification of self-orthogonal and self dual codes over Z8. We also focus our attention on covering radius problem of octonary codes. In particular, we determine lower and upper bounds of the covering radius of several classes of Repetition codes, Si...

The Newton radius of a code is the largest weight of a uniquely correctable error. The covering radius is the largest distance between a vector and the closest codeword. A couple of relations involving the Newton and covering radii are discussed. c © 2001 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.

For a prime power q and for integers R, η with R > 0, 0 ≤ η ≤ R − 1, let A R,q = (Cni)i denote an infinite sequence of q-ary linear [ni, ni − ri]qR codes Cni with covering radius R and such that the following two properties hold: (a) the codimension ri = Rti + η, where (ti)i is an increasing sequence of integers; (b) the length ni of Ci coincides with f (η) q (ri), where f (η) q is an increasin...
متن کاملLinear codes with covering radius 3
The shortest possible length of a q-ary linear code of covering radius R and codimension r is called the length function and is denoted by q(r, R). Constructions of codes with covering radius 3 are here developed, which improve best known upper bounds on q(r, 3). General constructions are given and upper bounds on q(r, 3) for q = 3, 4, 5, 7 and r ≤ 24 are tabulated.
